Maintenance
Many timber fences require periodic painting, staining or treatment to maintain their appearance. Composite boards do not need the same routine painting or staining regime; occasional cleaning is generally the main ongoing care requirement.
Appearance
Timber naturally varies in grain, colour and weathering. That character is attractive in the right setting. Composite is better suited to projects where the objective is a controlled, repeatable finish with clean board lines and coordinated aluminium framing.
Weathering and consistency
Natural timber can change appearance as it is exposed to weather. Composite products are designed to provide a more consistent low-maintenance boundary, although all exterior materials should be expected to experience some normal environmental ageing.
Design flexibility
Composite fencing can be used for full-privacy layouts, slatted-top designs, decorative screen-top boundaries, vertical layouts and suitable existing concrete-post retrofits. This makes it possible to choose an architectural direction rather than simply a panel style.
Which should you choose?
Choose timber if natural material variation and traditional character are the priority. Choose composite when low routine maintenance, coordinated detailing and a contemporary architectural appearance matter more.
